BONES COVER “I’M AFRAID OF AMERICANS” FOR THE HOWARD STERN TRIBUTE TO DAVID BOWIE

February 6, 2018

“This is Trent Reznor-level cool. BONES is doing the whole damn thing,
middle fingers to the sky and in full control of their work. Rock on.”
NYLONNew York, NY (February 6, 2018) – Female-led LA via London duo BONES are honored to be a part of the all-star lineup for The Howard Stern Tribute to David Bowie, covering “I’m Afraid of Americans” for the King of All Media’s compilation celebrating the legendary artist. The track, along with covers from Garbage, Car Seat Headrest, Bleachers, Britt Daniel, William Patrick Corgan, Daryl Hall, The Struts and more will premiere this Friday, February 9 at 10pm on SiriusXM’s Howard101. More information can be found at HowardStern.com.

“As a British band who has just moved over to the U.S.A., ‘I’m Afraid of Americans’ was the perfect track for us to cover and one of our favorite Bowie tracks—the pressure was totally on,” explained Rosie Bones, the band’s lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist. “So we did our best to insert a little slice of us nasty Brits into the song in hopes that we both did the track justice and made it our own all at the same time.”

Rosie further revealed she and guitarist Carmen Vandenberg—the other half of BONES—stepped outside their comfort zone to create the cover, but she said that’s was the whole point. “There are legends and then there is Bowie. We love how he always said that it’s when you’re a couple of steps out of your comfort zone, that’s when the most exciting stuff happens,” she said, referencing a famous Bowie quote extolling the virtues of uncomfortably difficult challenges. “Obviously, when covering a Bowie song, you are immediately out of your comfort zone because you just want to do him and it justice.”

BONES had a busy 2017, tearing up the stage on tour across the U.S. and gaining a massive following off of only two singles, “Beautiful is Boring” and “Girls Can’t Play Guitar”. This year will be even more packed with showcases planned at SXSW in March and their debut festival performance at Hangout Festival in May.

Forging their own distinctive sound with the help of vicious guitar, provocative lyrics and industrial electronic drum and bass, BONES is aiming to make a huge impact on modern music. Keep an eye out for an announcement of BONES’ debut album soon!
