Patterson Hood Debuts HEAT LIGHTNING RUMBLES IN THE DISTANCE At #1 On Heatseekers Chart

September 19, 2012

“The hush magnifies its stories of family and fucked-up youth, and even the sketches deliver an emotional gut punch.”
3 1/2 stars Rolling Stone

Athens, GA – Heat Lightning Rumbles In The Distance is Patterson Hood’s third solo record and highest debut. Heat Lightning Rumbles In The Distance debuts at  #1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart, #25 on the Indie Chart and #101 on the Top 200.
Heat Lightning Rumbles In The Distance has been well received from the press. The Oxford American says “This is by far the most personal music we’ve ever heard from Hood, and these narratives bring out a more soulful sonic feeling…it’s his best yet.” New York Daily News gives the record 4 stars and says “Hood has always chronicled other people’s lives with a clear and unblinking eye. But never has he told his own story with equal candor and breadth. Until now.” Popmatters says “it’s the most musically coherent album of Hood’s solo career.”
Hood and the Downtown Rumblers continue on their tour tomorrow in Hudson, NY. The show offers a much lower key sound than Drive-By Truckers fans are used to, giving more focus on Hood’s songwriting. The Patriot Ledger says, “The sextet produced a rootsy, down-home sound but still managed to kick it up to levels a lot livelier than most coffeehouses. And whatever the musical format was, the night was notable for the often brutal honesty of Hood’s songwriting.” The touring band includes DBT keyboardist Jay Gonzalez, and Brad Morgan on drums, with Jacob Morris on cello, and Page Campbell on guitar, with sister Claire Campbell on banjo, with Hood playing acoustic guitar.
