“Lee’s new album continues to showcase his soulful voice and empathetic lyrics…stunning” – NPR Music
“My New Moon is the most personal and deeply felt of Lee’s seven studio albums.” – Billboard
When Amos Lee was writing ‘My New Moon’ (out today on Dualtone Records), he described the album’s mission as to “expose myself to other people’s stories, embrace them, and experience others first.” ‘My New Moon’ has been lauded as “the most personal and deeply felt of Lee’s seven studio albums” by Billboard, yet its roots are ultimately in the courage of others – from those Amos met through organizations like the Wounded Warrior Project and Musicians on Call, to the profound impact of Parkland and Charlottesville. Despite some heavy subject matter, the ten-song collection is a message of hope to the most resilient – “music to help listeners heal,” as Salon has put it. The album is currently #4 overall at iTunes and #1 on the singer songwriter chart.
A powerful interview segment with World Café also just aired nationally. It digs deep into the inspiration behind this record, including a trip with Amos to Seattle for a show he played in partnership with the Melodic Caring Project and a young cancer survivor that Amos befriended through the organization: https://n.pr/2MH6YuX. World Café/NPR Music also previously featured this acoustic performance of “No More Darkness, No More Light” from the Virginia wilderness, watch it here: https://n.pr/2AFhQ75
Listen to Amos discuss the Charlottesville-inspired ‘My New Moon’ B-side “Dying White Light” with NPR’s 1A: https://bit.ly/2PfVyeI. Newsday also just deemed “Crooked” “the first great protest song.”
“Darkness” has been a staple of Triple A radio this summer, charting in the Top 20 most-played songs, and Amos will perform it with other standouts from ‘My New Moon’ on CBS Saturday September 8th.
Helping Amos bring his purposeful vision to life on ‘My New Moon’ are producer Tony Berg (Phoebe Bridgers, Andrew Bird) and an incomparable group of studio aces: multi-instrumentalists Ethan Gruska and Blake Mills, Benmont Tench and Patrick Warren on keyboards, Greg Leisz on pedal steel, Rob Moose on strings and many others.
Amos will take ‘My New Moon’ on the road from New York to California this fall, kicking off at NYC’s Beacon Theatre on September 14 after with a special acoustic performance and Q&A with journalist Alan Light from The Strand’s Rare Book Room on September 13.
