Belle & Sebastian Confirmed to Score The Soundtrack to Simon Bird’s “Days of The Bagnold Summer”

Filming has wrapped on DAYS OF THE BAGNOLD SUMMER which marks the Directorial debut of actor, writer and comedian Simon Bird, star of the international hit Inbetweeners.

The cast includes BAFTA-winning actress Monica Dolan (Eye in the Sky, The Falling, Pride), Earl Cave, son of Nick Cave (The End of the F***ing World), Rob Brydon (The TripA Cock and Bull StoryBIFA-Award-winning actress, writer and director Alice Lowe (Prevenge, Adult Life Skills, Sightseers),Olivier-Award-winner actress Tamsin Greig (Second Best Marigold Hotel, Tamara Drewe) and Elliot Speller-Gillot (Uncle).

Belle & Sebastian will compose the original soundtrack and score for the film, to be released by Matador Records in 2019

DAYS OF THE BAGNOLD SUMMER is an adaptation of Joff Winterhart’s graphic novel of the same name, it is the first graphic novel to be nominated for the Costa Book Award. The screenplay is by Lisa Owens, author of the novel Not Working. The film is produced by Matthew James Wilkinson of Stigma Films, whose credits include the thriller Kaleidoscope starring Toby Jones and Double Date directed by Benjamin Barfoot, written by and starring Danny Morgan (named the Screen International/FrightFest Genre Rising Star 2017) and winner of the Golden Octopus Award at the 2017 Strasbourg European Fantastic Film Festival.  DAYS OF THE BAGNOLD SUMMER is co-produced by Isabelle Georgeaux of Pont Neuf Productions, also a co-producer of Calibre starring Jack Lowden and Martin McCann.  

A heavy-metal-loving teenager’s holiday plans fall through at the last minute, meaning he must spend the whole summer with the person who annoys him most in the world: his mum. DAYS OF THE BAGNOLD SUMMER is a tender, funny coming-of-age story; an acutely observed portrait of growing pains, friendship and family life.

The band has released eleven critically acclaimed albums including the epoch-defining TigermilkIf You’re Feeling Sinister and The Boy With The Arab Strap and many classic EPs and singles including most recently the How To Solve Our Human Problems trilogy. Triumphing against the odds to win British Breakthrough Act at the BRIT Awards in 1999, one of the first artists to curate their own Festival with the landmark Bowlie Weekender, the inspiration for All Tomorrow’s Parties (ATP).

Having their songs strewn across the landscape of popular culture everywhere from Juno and High Fidelity to Gilmore Girls and The Devil Wears Prada Belle & Sebastian have defined the spirit of DIY in a career where the only constant has been innovation and individuality. The Boaty Weekender, a first seaborne European Music Festival and cruise of its kind to be hosted by the band in summer 2019, is the latest adventure from a group whose relationship with its fans has always been defined by community and togetherness, with many shows ending in a stage invasion, and fans adorning many of the band’s iconic album covers.
