Like countless millions of Americans, singer-songwriter Zella Day felt overwhelmed by the chaos and toxicity spawned by the 2020 election cycle. Day channeled those feelings into a rousing and spirited rendition of Ozzy Osbourne’s “Crazy Train,” released today.

While “Crazy Train” may strike as a rather unconventional choice for a singer/songwriter who has earned praise for her “warm vocals, sounding like a combination of Linda Ronstadt and Belinda Carlisle” (AV Club), Day explains what inspired her take on the Osbourne classic, first released in 1980.

“I wanted to choose a song deeply embedded in the American psyche, loved by the majority. ‘Crazy Train’ speaks to the proverbial toxic political climate with irrefutable truth, reminding us today that history is in fact repeating itself.”

She reflects, “Pain is a struggle that, in some cases, can act as a catalyst to bring people together despite their differences. In ‘Crazy Train,’ Ozzy sings of political and societal manipulation scarring generations. Change is possible if we work together, but first we must practice empathy, and in his words, “learn how to love and forget how to hate.”

“Crazy Train” comes on the heels of Day’s acclaimed 2020 release,

Where Does The Devil Hide. The five song EP, a collaboration with 8-time GRAMMY-winner Dan Auerbach, heralded Day’s return to music after a self-imposed hiatus during which she focused on writing.

Day’s highly-anticipated sophomore album is slated for release, Spring2021.
