Bio

Hailing from a small town filled with small town vibes and sweet indie musicians, FERBY is the only trashy trap kid on the block making waves in the space. With all music thus far being created from her own mind and hands in the 4 walls of her home in Lyttelton (New Zealand), this isn’t as simple as straight bedroom pop. FERBY is redefining the meaning of the genre, creating a newness with each fresh cut.

Smashing out homemade beats on Ableton, she’d scrawl her own lyrics on top of chart samples, taking notes from the likes of Princess Nokia, Ashnikko, and Baby Keem. Throw in a bit of nostalgic Miley Cyrus’ illicit pop-edged cool, and you’ve got the perfect mixture. With an early affinity for Yung Lean, she followed the emo-trap kings lead by drip feeding the beats into the Soundcloud-scape. With her spat out licks adding a kick, to her surprise, she stood out and gained traction in underground and mainstream spaces alike. It was, and still is, all go from there.

Making the move over to Spotify proved a win for the 23 year old, scoring coveted additions in the Spotify sphere with previously released tracks being painted across playlists such New Music Friday NZ and AU, Local Hype, and even gracing the cover of The Drip. The music spoke for itself, catching the attention of longtime inspiration JPEGMAFIA, leading FERBY from being just a mere member of the crowd to the one performing to it – supporting the underground alt-rap god and holding her own in the process.

Now seeping into 2023 still reeling from the high that was, the music elevates with each release. The creative process is different each time she sits down and the breadth of inspiration sparks from the world around her – a new video game, an old tv show, or someone she’s become fixated on and how they see the world. Thematically exploring how she can build a universe around each track, insular creativity becomes far reaching in output.
