Alabama Shakes Announce Fall Headline Tour

July 10, 2012

Alabama Shakes will kick off a North American headline tour on September 27th at Nashville’s Public Square Park as part of the free “Live On The Green” concert series. The run will include shows at New York City’s Terminal 5 on October 4th and at House of Blues in Boston on October 5th. A ticket pre-sale begins tomorrow, July 11th, at http://alabamashakes.frontgatetickets.com/. Tickets will go on sale to the general public this Friday, July 13th, at noon. Alabama Shakes will play the sold-out Austin City Limits Festival on October 12th and embark on a European tour in November.

The band will perform on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Monday, August 13th. Boys & Girls, Alabama Shakes’ debut album, was recently named one of “25 Favorite Albums Of 2012 (So Far)” by NPR Music and it came in at No. 2 on the NPR listeners’ poll. Released by ATO Records in the U.S. in April, Boys & Girls debuted at No. 1 on the Independent Label chart and has ranked in the Top 50 on The Billboard 200 ever since. It has sold over 200,000 units to date.

Boys & Girls was released in Europe by Rough Trade and entered the U.K. album chart at No. 3.

Reviewing Alabama Shakes’ set at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, The New York Times’ Jon Pareles said: “the music was fervent, rip-roaring rock and roll.” Rolling Stone observed: “it was clear that a new player had arrived on the festival circuit.” American Songwriter called the band’s performance “a juke-joint revival, with a setlist that swaggered its way between old-school rock & roll, vintage southern soul, classic blues and R&B. Steering the band through every Motown melody and shuffled backbeat was singer Brittany Howard, a bespectacled tour de force who sang like Janis Joplin and played guitar like Chuck Berry.”

The band’s upcoming summer dates include two nights with Neil Young at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO (8/5, 6), a sold-out headline show at The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles (8/14) and performances at the Newport Folk, Lollapalooza and Outside Lands music festivals. See below for itinerary.
