Allen Stone Kicks Off Headline Tour
September 24, 2012
Allen Stone launches an extensive North American headline tour tonight with a show at Philadelphia’s World Cafe Live. He will play Highline Ballroom in New York City this Tuesday and Wednesday, September 25 and 26. The fall outing will feature special guests Tingsek, Sister Sparrow, Yuna and Selah Sue on select dates. Stone will kick off a European tour with Tingsek on November 21 in London. He will return to the States for a hometown show at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle, WA on December 7. See below for itinerary.
The 25-year-old soul singer from Chewelah, WA recently won mtvU’s Fall 2012 “Freshman 5” competition, which asked viewers to vote on five up-and-coming artists primed to jump from campus favorites to household names. Fans can see Allen performing his latest single, “Sleep,” on “Late Show with David Letterman” at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifsJzi9XUJc
Stone released his self-titled album digitally via his own stickystones label last fall and it quickly entered the Top 10 of Billboard’s Heatseekers chart and the Top 5 of iTunes’ R&B/Soul charts. Performances on “Conan,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “Last Call with Carson Daly” and “Live from Daryl’s House” followed and Esquire, CNN and Billboard named Stone as an artist to watch – all before he had signed with a label. ATO Records gave the album its wide release in July 2012.
“With his tangle of blond locks and lumberjack sweater, he looks less like a soulsinger and more like someone you’d find selling hemp necklaces in Big Sur. But soon hundreds of slack-jawed hipsters have sheathed their smartphones to listen as he belts out the words to his song ‘Unaware,’” said Forbes.com. The New York Times’ Jon Pareles noted: “his music reached back four decades to the late 1960s and early ’70s, when songwriters like Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway and Bill Withers brought introspection and social commentary to soul music.” “Stone’s beautiful music has universal appeal,” said the Chicago Tribune while the LA Weekly declared: “he’s the real deal.”
