Jessie Marcella
Bio
Hailing from Leeds, UK producer and composer Jessie Marcella has always been drawn to deep, emotive soundscapes. Classically trained in the clarinet, Jessie found early inspiration for her own work from the likes of artists Sigur Rós and Björk, but beyond this, much of Marcella’s inspiration for her music comes from nature, growing up in Devizes, Wiltshire, a small, peaceful market town on the outskirts of Bristol.
It’s easy to over-think when writing music, for Jessie, keeping it simple is essential. She describes her music-making process as a series of happy accidents – in which a melancholy melody written on her home studio keyboard can evolve unexpectedly through her use of varied plug-ins to extend, deconstruct and distort sound.
Championed by the likes of Sian Eleri and Jaguar on BBC Radio 1, this British newcomer crafts her unique sound through a process of melding together live and electronic instrumentation, creating seamlessly intertwined neo-classical ambience with her higher energy tracks.
Winner of Youth Music’s Music Producer Award 2022, Jessie’s fearless production and talent for captivating and moving her audience has been recognised. Live performance and responsive audience engagement is a dimension of her practice which she has been working to develop further – From her bold start at Radio 1s Big Weekend 2022, through to her latest Amsterdam Dance Event [ADE] debut where Marcella performed a DJ gig at Paradiso, followed by two sold out ambient shows.
