SLASH—the iconic American rock guitarist, songwriter and film producer–has amassed album sales of over 100 million copies, garnered a GRAMMY Award and seven GRAMMY nominations, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Born Saul Hudson in London, England in 1965, SLASH’s father was a white British graphic artist and his mother was a black American costume designer. At age five, SLASH and his family moved to Los Angeles where he grew up in the nonstop bohemian playground of the 1970s.
Revered as one of the best guitarists of all time, SLASH first came to fame as one fifth of Guns N’ Roses, where he created the timeless guitar riffs to #1 hits “Sweet Child o’ Mine” and “Welcome To The Jungle,” amongst others. After leaving the band, he went on to achieve more critical acclaim and global success with Slash’s Snakepit and the supergroup Velvet Revolver before embarking on his own solo career.
Time magazine recently named SLASH #2, behind Jimi Hendrix, on its “Ten Best Electric Guitar Players of All-Time” list.
SLASH’s self-titled biography, released in 2008, was both critically and commercially well-received, climbing the bestsellers’ lists in both the U.S. and U.K. and hitting #8 on the New York Times Bestsellers List. SPIN magazine called the book “entertaining and educational…a crash course for aspiring rock gods.”
SLASH landed on the top of the charts again in 2010 with his first solo album, SLASH. The album featured Ozzy Osbourne, Fergie, Iggy Pop, Adam Levine, and more. He formed his solo band SLASH Featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators shortly thereafter. In addition to Kennedy on vocals, the band features bassist Todd Kerns, drummer Brent Fitz, and rhythm guitarist Frank Sidoris. Together they have toured all over the world for the past 8 years, playing to packed houses from the U.S. to the U.K., Europe to Australia, South America to Southeast Asia. They released their first album together in 2012, the critically acclaimed Apocalyptic Love, which debuted at #4 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. Apocalyptic Love has the added distinction of spawning SLASH’s first-ever #1 rock radio solo hits: “You’re A Lie” and “Standing In The Sun.”
SLASH forayed into film production in 2013, starting his own production company, Slasher Films, and releasing the horror film Nothing Left To Fear.
SLASH Featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators unleashed their third album, World On Fire in 2014 to worldwide praise. World On Fire debuted on over 12 Top Ten charts worldwide, becoming his third straight solo album to do so in the U.S. The album’s title track and first single “World On Fire” ascended to #1 at U.S. Rock Radio.
In 2016, Guns N’ Roses shocked the world by announcing that the three original members, Axl Rose, SLASH and Duff McKagan would reunite on-stage for the first time together since 1993. Dubbed the Not In This Lifetime Tour, the hugely successful 21-city North American run was quickly followed by subsequent legs in Latin America, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, as well as a second North American leg. A 2018 European leg was added in November 2017. The tour so far has grossed over $480,000,000 worldwide – making it the fourth highest-grossing tour of all time.
But even with all the GNR reunion activity, SLASH always planned on getting back together with Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators, and in September of 2018 the band released their third album – and SLASH’s fourth solo album overall – Living The Dream. The LP is possibly the band’s strongest collective statement to date. From the barnstorming, high-octane riffery of opener “Call of the Wild,” to the wah-drenched funk rock of “Read Between the Lines,” the stately, quasi-classical melodic themes of “The Great Pretender” to the massive hooks and anthemic, singalong choruses of first single “Driving Rain,” Living The Dream packs a compendium of sounds and styles into 12 tightly arranged and sharply executed tracks, all of it shot through SLASH’s trademark electrifying and dynamic riffing and high-wire, lyrical solos.
