Brassroots District: Live in the Lot Summer ‘73 Immersive Concert Experience about an LA Funk Band on the Rise

June 1, 2021

This summer, music and immersive industry veterans invite audience members to celebrate the return of live theatre by time traveling back to 1973, the golden age of funk, for a new, outdoor immersive concert experience: Brassroots District: Live in the Lot Summer ‘73. While concertgoers groove out to the nine-piece funk band’s original music, immersive actors mix it up in the crowd telling a truly 70s tale of a band on its way to the big time. Audience members should dress to impress in their finest vintage threads to truly feel the funk.

It’s 1973: The Summer of Love is a memory and Nixon is bugging out in the White House. But the war is over, the California sun is shinin’, and LA is the funkiest town this side of the stratosphere. That’s the vibe when Brassroots District arrives on the scene. A funk outfit helmed by the fabulously far out ex-lovers Copper Jones and Ursa Major, Brassroots District is making unity and community through sweet soul music from Crenshaw Boulevard to the Sunset Strip. Now they’ve got record execs sniffing around, a growing fanclub, and a sweet summer gig opening the parking lot for Sly and the Family Stone. The only thing missing is you, ya dig?

The creators of Brassroots District are “music industry guru” (American Songwriter) and singer/songwriter Ari Herstand (Ari’s Take) and artist manager Andrew Leib (Red Light Management). Herstand co-stars as the lead singer of the band, Copper Jones, and Leib produces. The project is directed and co-produced by Capital W’s Monica Miklas, a longtime mainstay in the Los Angeles immersive scene, and written by award-winning playwright Daysha Veronica. The show also features rising star Celeste Butler (American Idol) as frontwoman and band leader Ursa Major.
