GOMEZ TO CELEBRATE THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF “BRING IT ON” WITH HEADLINING PERFORMANCE AT LONDON’S ICONIC ROYAL ALBERT HALL ON THURSDAY MAY 3, 2018, AND ADDITIONAL INTERNATIONAL DATES
October 23, 2017
“I done listen to this record over and over and I can’t find no defect.”
– John Lee Hooker. 1998
Gomez is living proof that perseverance and consistency are qualities to be proud of; they have ridden out changes in fads and styles around them to maintain their popularity and critical standing.
The band will make their highly anticipated live return to London on Thursday May 3, 2018 with a special performance at The Royal Albert Hall to celebrate 20 years since the release of their Mercury Prize winning debut “Bring It On.”
Tickets for the date will go on general sale this Friday, 27th October, at 9am from www.seetickets.com.
Gomez beat heavy competition from Pulp’s “This Is Hardcore”, The Verve‘s “Urban Hymns”, and Massive Attack‘s “Mezzanine” to win the 1998 Mercury Music Prize
“One of the most assured, poised, hilarious, out-there, plain don’t-give-a-fuck enjoyable debut albums in living memory.” NME
The five members of Gomez – Ben Ottewell (vocals, guitar), Tom Gray (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Paul Blackburn (bass, guitar), Olly Peacock (drums), and Ian Ball (vocals, guitar, harmonica) continue to receive praise in the rock press on both sides of the Atlantic.
“There’s something magical about ‘Bring It On’… something very special about anything you might do before you care what the world might think of you,” Gray noted about the band’s seminal debut album. “It’s wilful musical adventurism: There’s a sense of escapism and experiment that could only be possible for wide-eyed kids. It will be a genuine thrill to share it with people again… I honestly can’t wait to feel 20 years younger on stage every night.”
“Bring It On” has that creative buzz, the excitement and spirit of adventure that comes when any young band starts out – and which Gomez have, with no self-aggrandised fanfare, successfully maintained to this day.
