Cordovas’ Strange Roots Radio Added to WMOT’s Sunday Night LineupNashville’s Cordovas, the psychedelic country rock band with history from Los Angeles to Baja, Mexico to Music By God City, has joined WMOT’s Americana adventure with their own show, Strange Roots Radio. It’s two hours of deep-cutting exploration from the American South and beyond, exploring the fringe of the American canon’s fabric, according to the band’s shamanistic front man and voice of SRR, Joe Firstman.
Strange Roots Radio will launch on January 17 and air weekly on Sunday nights from 10 pm until midnight.
“Like the mud-covered stilts holding up the grand American Music billboard, Strange Roots Radio digs deep to uncover the sometimes forgotten essence of roots music: pure American Weirdness,” Firstman says. “Join us as we spin everything from New Orleans Queens to California Hippie Heroes–plus poetry, interviews, and more.”
Besides little known cuts and wine cellar gems from the familiar outlaws like Willie, Waylon, Johnny and Merle, Cordovas spins up populist reggae, fringy country soul, dirty southern funk, Appalachian rambler anthems, gospel shouts and ribald blues queens. Strange Roots Radio compliments WMOT’s commitment to best contemporary Americana with the kind of edu-taining backstory one could only learn from some good friends with good sources and an attic full of records spanning five decades.
