October 13, 2016

The Avett Brothers have released a video and a sneak peak of songs to be performed for their extraordinary upcoming concert event Dear Jerry: This Is 30! featuring special guest Warren Haynes, one of two concerts honoring the music of Jerry Garcia coming to the DC/VA/MD area on October 14 and 15. The once-in-a-lifetime concert event, produced by Blackbird Presents and the Jerry Garcia Family, will commemorate the 30th anniversary of Garcia’s historic return to the concert stage by recreating a classic Jerry Garcia Band show from October 1986, plus performances of additional Garcia classics. The set list includes some of Jerry’s most beloved songs and covers, including Mission in the Rain, Rubin And Cherise, Run for the Roses, and Tangled Up in Blue.

“Jerry Garcia was one of the greatest interpreters of the modern American songbook. We are thrilled to perform these songs for Garcia, Grateful Dead and Avett Brothers fans at this very special concert event,” said Seth Avett of The Avett Brothers. “It’s always special anytime I get to perform with The Avett Brothers but being able to collaborate with them in performing this special Garcia show takes this to a whole different level,” added legendary guitarist/vocalist Warren Haynes (Allman Brothers/Gov’t Mule/The Dead).

ABOUT JERRY GARCIA

Jerry Garcia (1942-1995) created an unparalleled legacy across the American landscape, most notably in his role as a founding member, singer, songwriter and lead guitarist of the Grateful Dead. Garcia’s unmistakable guitar tone enchanted multitudes of “Deadheads” throughout the band’s 30-year career and beyond. His work with the Jerry Garcia Band, Old and in the Way, Legion of Mary, Garcia/Grisman and projects with Merl Saunders only scratch at the surface of his musical influences as he set out to master the Great American Songbook. In June of 2015, Garcia and Robert Hunter’s collaborative partnership will be recognized with an induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Unequivocally devoted to the craft of music, Garcia continues to inspire future generations through the body of work he has left behind and his creative spirit.
