Hear Drive-By Truckers new album on NPR First Listen

September 23, 2016

Drive-By Truckers have teamed with NPR Music to present the First Listen premiere of their extraordinary new album, AMERICAN BAND. The eagerly anticipated collection is streaming now in its entirety, exclusively via NPR Music: First Listen. AMERICAN BAND arrives in stores and online retailers everywhere next Friday, September 30th.

Check it out at NPR.com.

Drive-By Truckers will make a number of high profile media appearances in support of the album’s release, including an October 1st visit to CBS This Morning: Saturday set to feature a three-song performance and interview with CBS News Senior Correspondent Anthony Mason. The band will then travel to Portland, OR for an exclusive performance of AMERICAN BAND in its entirely, to be broadcast live from the Oregon Public Broadcasting studios via NPR Music and opbmusic.org as part of NPR’s First Listen Live series on Wednesday, October 5th at 7 pm ET/4 pm PT.

AMERICAN BAND has already begun accruing early praise, including a 9-out-of-10 rated rave from The Line of Best Fit headlined “Drive-By Truckers’ Eleventh LP Is The Righteous, Resigned Album America Needs In 2016.” “It’s a small gift,” wrote NPR Music’s Ann Powers, “within these challenging days, that one of the nation’s best bands has made what very well might be its greatest album.”

“Filthy and Fried,” the most recent track release from AMERICAN BAND, is accompanied by a lyric video featuring animated art by the band’s longtime collaborator Wes Freed also featured in the gatefold of the new album’s red vinyl edition (available for pre-order now at the official Drive-By Truckers Store). “Filthy and Fried” is streaming now at Drive-By Truckers’ official YouTube channel.

Hailed by Stereogum as “perhaps the greatest extant American rock and roll band,” Drive-By Truckers will celebrate AMERICAN BAND with an epic headline tour continuing into late-November (see itinerary below). Support on all dates through October 15th comes from Lydia Loveless. Tour highlights include two-night-stands at Portland, OR’s Wonder Ballroom (September 30th and October 1st), San Francisco, CA’s The Fillmore (October 6th and 7th), and Los Angeles, CA’s Teragram Ballroom (October 11th and 12th). Additional dates will be announced soon – for updates and ticket information, please visit the official Drive-By Truckers tour page.
