“Shimmering…pointillist…skittering…and serrated-edge.” – Rolling Stone
“Really incredible…I was just so deeply moved by the whole thing” – NPR Music
“Even as she delves into devastating and dark subject matter throughout, Mancari often twists them into songs filled with hopefulness.” – Them.
“Artist of the Month…Fantastic…Akin to Cate Le Bon or Aldous Harding” – Consequence of Sound
“Along with Hayley Williams’ recent debut solo album Petals For Armor [and Brittany Howard’s Jaime], it completes a trifecta of emotionally vulnerable albums by three of Nashville’s most audacious pop stars.” – GRAMMY.com
“Raw and intrepid” – Paste
“Storytelling that’s as captivating as the song’s hummable refrain.” – BrooklynVegan
“Lyrics are a raw but subtle gut-punch” – Nashville Scene
“Mancari delivers a collection of deeply personal songs that carry a lyrical weight, but float above tight, groovy production.” – Uproxx
“A hypnotic and atmospheric song that plays with elements of rock, psych, folk and more… A mix between Sharon Van Etten and St. Vincent” – We All Want Someone To Shout For
Today, Becca Mancari releases her new album The Greatest Part via Captured Tracks, her first project with the label. The deeply personal album navigates the tender crevices of Nashville-based Mancari’s origins, greeting past traumas head on with vivid, unflinching melodies and Becca’s crystalline voice. The album has already earned high praise from Rolling Stone, NPR and GRAMMY.com, who call Mancari one of Nashville’s “most audacious pop stars” alongside Hayley Williams and Brittany Howard. The album includes recently released singles “Hunter,” “First Time” and “Lonely Boy.”
Mancari on The Greatest Part:
“I started writing The Greatest Part at the end of 2018. I was completely exhausted from non-stop touring for over two years and I was struggling to find a vision for the future. I was basically at my rock bottom, but just before the point of breaking, something happened. Melodies and words started coming to me out of nowhere, as if these new songs were given to me. I started to notice that I hadn’t really told my story of coming out yet, or grieved this experience in my life, and I think for a lot of people who have experienced trauma when they were young only know how to survive day by day. This record is about not running from the past anymore, and it’s about having the courage to step out into the bright and beautifully unknown future. Instead of all the heaviness and pain, the greatest part of life is actually living it, and being able to have joy and grief holding your hand at the same time and living through it to see another day.”
Produced by Paramore drummer Zac Farro, The Greatest Part marks a significant sonic evolution for the Nashville-based songwriter since her debut and a foray into her more vulnerable work to date. The lyrics are raw and intrepid here, peeling back old scars to explore the emotional and psychological turmoil Mancari weathered growing up gay in a fundamentalist Christian home, while at the same time examining the ties that continue to bind her to the family she loves. Mancari’s musicianship has been praised by NPR for its “exquisite self-awareness” and her debut LP was hailed as one of the year’s best by Rolling Stone, who applauded her “confident vocals [and] spacious, hazy production.”
To celebrate the album’s release, Becca will perform a livestreamed convert from Grimeys in Nashville at 7:30pm ET via Becca’s Facebook and YouTube pages. Both Natalie Prass and Julien Baker will join Becca on stage to sit in on the performance of new songs from The Greatest Part.
