Today New York City based duo Refs reveal ‘Now’, a stellar EP release from a band who have taken the blogosphere by storm since their viral debut track, ‘Pain Goes Away’. The follow up to their debut mixtape ‘Stories’, ‘Now’ showcases producer Zach Lipkins and vocalist Rich Saunders ( Chance The Rapper) at their creative best, fusing intricate electronic beats with astonishing vocals. With fans in the likes of Complex, Noisey, i-D, Pigeons & Planes, Okayplayer, ELEVATOR and more. Refs have carved themselves a stellar reputation -‘NOW’ is testament to just why.
Speaking on the release, the band state:
“The two of us huddled up in Brooklyn last winter and started writing these tunes. Most of the lyrics have to do with what it means to feel jaded. We’ve both recently faced hopeful situations that quickly went sour. But there were lessons to be learned, and writing these songs helped us to separate the gloom from the glow.”
Track List:
- Bones
2.What A Shame
- New York ( St.Vincent cover)
4 Little Late
In more exciting news, Refs have also scored the music video for the global launch of the Apple iPhone Pro. The video for the product, premiered today, features Refs songs ‘ Bones’ and ‘ Normal Too’ as throughout the 3-minute cinematic. Speaking on the process, Zach of Refs states:
“Apple got in touch about our track “Normal Too”, which has this gritty, industrial bassline and all-around sinister presence. Once I peeled my jaw off the ground, I went to work, riffing on the intensity and ultimately finding this textured, low-end dominant intro. Then we added in “Bones” and the whole thing became a rallying point for picture. Super pumped to be a part of it! And the phone itself is an absolute beast.”
