THE FRAY’S ICONIC HIT “HOW TO SAVE A LIFE” ACHIEVES RIAA DIAMOND STATUS
August 13, 2025
Four-time GRAMMY-nominated band The Fray celebrated a monumental achievement as their breakthrough hit “How to Save a Life” was certified 11x Platinum by the RIAA. Band members Joe King, Ben Wysocki and Dave Welsh were honored before their sold-out show at The Ryman Auditorium on August 12, where Mitch Glazier, Chairman and CEO of the RIAA, personally presented the Diamond award to the band.
The Fray are currently on their How to Save a Life: the 20th Anniversary Tour, celebrating the lasting legacy of their debut album and title track, proving that fan enthusiasm remains as strong as ever. So far, 39 dates have sold out, with limited tickets still available for the remaining shows.
“This song has been such an important part of our lives and to see it resonate with fans for over 20 years is truly humbling,” said King, lead vocalist of The Fray. “We’re grateful for every person who has connected with the music and made this milestone possible.”
This milestone not only marks the tremendous commercial success of “How to Save a Life,” but also highlights the deep, enduring connection the band has built with fans worldwide over two decades. The song hit No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States and remained on the chart for 58 consecutive weeks. It also became a defining anthem of ABC’s Emmy-winning series “Grey’s Anatomy.”
Several titles from The Fray’s catalog have also reached new RIAA achievements. The band’s self-titled album The Fray is now certified 2x Platinum, while multiple singles have earned upgraded awards, including “Never Say Never” (2x Platinum), “Over My Head (Cable Car)” 5x Platinum, and “You Found Me” (7x Platinum).
Fans can experience “How to Save a Life” and other favorites during the band’s 20th Anniversary Tour. The U.S. leg will feature special guests The Strike, Landon Barker, Cassandra Coleman, verygently, gavn!, and Megan Burtt on select dates. St. Lundi will join the UK and European shows, while Joan & The Giants will appear on the Australian dates.
