THE VACCINES RELEASE “PLANET OF THE YOUTH” EP, UK TOUR BEGINS NEXT WEEK
April 8, 2022
THE VACCINES today release their brand new EP, Planet Of The Youth. Recorded at The Pool, London and produced by Fryars (Mark Ronson, Pharrell), mixed by Matt Wiggins (Glass Animals), the EP comprises six brand new songs that follow on from the band’s acclaimed UK Top 5 album Back In Love City.
The EP release is accompanied by a video for the single, Thunder Fever, directed by Nina Ljeti, the Canadian director who’s also directed clips including for Patti Smith and Phoebe Bridgers’ Kyoto. Says the band’s Justin Young of the video, “We’ve been fans of Nina’s work for a long time so it was a privilege getting to create this video with her. Never before have I been to so many different planets whilst standing in the same room”. Watch the video HERE.
Planet of The Youth follows on from The Vaccines’ most euphoric, visceral and visionary work to date, a record that saw the five-piece reassert themselves as one of Britain’s most vital guitar bands. The EP sees the band mine the same rich, creative seams that produced Back In Love City, existing in that same world, while reflecting on the inevitable nostalgia and sadness of growing older, of increasingly feeling rather alien, and out of place. The Planet Of The Youth EP was inspired by this renewed space of creativity inspired by the recent LP, and can be seen as a companion piece: a “booster EP”, if you will!
The tracklisting for Planet Of The Youth runs as below. Listen to the EP HERE.
1 – Thunder Fever
2 – Planet of The Youth
3 – Young Meteors
4 – Twenty Four Seven
5 – Disaster Girl
6 – Hometown Of Jupiter
Planet Of The Youth is additionally available in Sony 360 Reality Audio on all supported platforms.
The Vaccines head out on the road in the UK next week, ahead of a summer full of festivals that include a number of headline slots. Says Young, “Playing live is at the core of what we do. It’s how we built our fan base and it’s where we thrive. Releasing music in a world without gigs felt a little like releasing it into a black hole so we couldn’t wait to get back into the studio to record an EP of songs we knew we’d be playing live. We can’t wait to hit the road and play them for everybody so that they can all come to life in the ways they were intended to “
