Watch Lindsay Ell Shred in Colorful ‘Waiting on You’ Video
Lead single from Ell’s ‘Worth the Wait’ EP showcases her top-notch guitar skills

The opening shot of “Waiting on You,” Lindsay Ell’s first music video to be released from her new EP Worth the Wait, features a stack of guitar amplifiers with the silhouetted singer and guitarist walking towards them in the background. As far as statements of intent go, that’s a pretty good one, as the smoky tune – the EP’s first single – is a showcase not only for the Canadian’s gifts as a singer but also as a guitarist.
After the intro to the video, which takes about 15 seconds while Ell slings the guitar (which looks like it came straight out of Eddie Van Halen’s personal collection) over her shoulder, she rips off the opening notes of the song on her Fender Stratocaster before the band joins in. Ell’s singing and songwriting hearkens back to a number of pop stars with country and blues leanings, like Shania Twain and Sheryl Crow, but like another of her major influences – John Mayer – she’s a mean lead guitarist as well.
Directed by music video veteran Peter Zavadil, “Waiting on You” jumps between scenes of Ell performing in a Nashville warehouse and a male love interest playing records in a wood-paneled bedroom. It’s a straight-ahead love song, as are many of the tracks on Worth the Wait. “It’s the progression of a relationship – of wanting love, of finding love, of deciding when love is not right, of letting go of love when it’s ok to give yourself permission to be like, ‘I need to move on from this, and having hope that you’re gonna find love again,'” Ell told Rolling Stone Country back in March.
Ell’s first single as a member of the Broken Bow Records’ imprint Stoney Creek, “Trippin’ on Us,” was released in 2013, but Worth the Wait – produced by Kristian Bush and released in March – is her first collection on the label. Her debut LP, The Project, is slated to be released next month. She’s touring the United States and Canada this summer as an opener on Brad Paisley’s Weekend Warrior Tour, but her next show is a stand-alone appearance on July 12th at the Cowboys Music Festival in Calgary, Canada.
