Today, Becca Mancari shares the brand new video for “I’m Sorry”, from her critically-acclaimed sophomore album The Greatest Part. The Greatest Part was released in June of this year via Captured Tracks, her first project with the label. Directed by Paramore’s Zac Farro, who also produced the record, the “I’m Sorry” video emulates the dynamic, emotional range of the track. This video follows Shura’s remix of Becca’s “Lonely Boy” that Consequence of Sound praises for “the clubby flair and an epic drum breakdown that transitions into a dazzling synth melody.”

Director Zac Farro on “I’m Sorry” video: “It’s been really special to have produced and recorded this record with Becca and by making these videos, we extended our collaboration to the visual side of this album as well. The same team I used for the “Hunter” video, [AJ Gibboney and Kayla Graninger], also helped on this video. I think it’s my favorite Becca video to date.”

Becca Mancari on “I’m Sorry” video: “When Zac Farro and I began this journey I knew that I wanted him to be an integral part of every aspect of the release. In this video, we wanted to express that feeling of being almost trapped in the darkness, the suffocating feeling of holding onto anger. We wanted the visuals to be a window into what it can feel like when your body starts to almost haunt you when you try to numb your emotions out. I love that the visuals are a little unsettling, but also beautiful in the way that I feel when I watch a David Lynch film. Beautiful, dark and unsettling as you must choose to either enter your body again or let it live in the shell you build around yourself that you think will protect you from pain.”

The deeply personal album navigates the tender crevices of Nashville-based Mancari’s origins, greeting past traumas head-on with vivid, unflinching melodies and Mancari’s crystalline voice. The album has already earned high praise from Rolling Stone, NPR and GRAMMY.com, who call Mancari one of Nashville’s “most audacious pop stars” alongside Hayley Williams and Brittany Howard. Mancari also participated in NPR’s Tiny Desk series. Watch the full performance here.

“Stereolab gone Nashville.” – New York Times
“Really incredible…I was just so deeply moved by the whole thing” – NPR Music
“Artist of the Month…Fantastic…Akin to Cate Le Bon or Aldous Harding” – Consequence of Sound
“Shimmering…pointillist…skittering…and serrated-edge.” – Rolling Stone
“Even as she delves into devastating and dark subject matter throughout, Mancari often twists them into songs filled with hopefulness.” – Them.
“Along with Hayley Williams’ recent debut solo album Petals For Armor [and Brittany Howard’s Jaime], it completes a trifecta of emotionally vulnerable albums by three of Nashville’s most audacious pop stars.” – GRAMMY.com
“Raw and intrepid” – Paste
“Mancari delivers a collection of deeply personal songs that carry a lyrical weight, but float above tight, groovy production.” – Uproxx

Produced by Paramore drummer Zac Farro, The Greatest Part marks a significant sonic evolution for the Nashville-based songwriter since her debut and a foray into her more vulnerable work to date. The lyrics are raw and intrepid here, peeling back old scars to explore the emotional and psychological turmoil Mancari weathered growing up gay in a fundamentalist Christian home, while at the same time examining the ties that continue to bind her to the family she loves. Mancari’s musicianship has been praised by NPR for its “exquisite self-awareness” and her debut LP was hailed as one of the year’s best by Rolling Stone, who applauded her “confident vocals [and] spacious, hazy production.”
