New York, NY (March 21, 2019) – In The Valley Below’s new feature film, ‘The Pink Chateau’, has been announced as an official selection at this year’s Newport Beach Fillm Festival, set to screen April 26, same date as the band’s companion, sophomore album will arrive via Bright Antenna. Co-directed by Angela Gail with Marcos Efron, ‘The Pink Chateau’ is the story of a young woman who follows a beautiful stranger into the countryside. What unfolds is a series of sensual and intimate tales in the form of a silent film set to the music of In The Valley Below’s new record. Prior to Newport Beach, In The Valley Below will take the sonic + visual experience out on the road across the U.S. at Alamo Drafthouse locations, April 9 – 23. Broadcast over headphones, guests will experience a fully immersive audio and visual experience as the band performs the album/score live in front of the film (dates below). A dreamlike diorama of interconnected musical vignettes inspired by vintage French erotica and the faded colors of 1970s films, each song on ‘The Pink Chateau’ serves as a portal through which the film’s enigmatic female protagonist confronts her most deep-seated desires. “It’s a story of sexual discovery and freedom from taboo,” Angela explains. “It’s a fantasy of an inviting place where female sexuality is a beautiful curiosity and not a shameful secret. Free from the story of the woman being a slut or victim if she is sexual.” The idea to make a film for the album came from novelist/film director and head of Bright Antenna, Tiffanie Debartolo, who gave Gail the full freedom and confidence to write and direct the film. Angela adds, “I had previously directed music videos, but the logistics of organizing a feature film shoot were new to me. I brought on a filmmaker friend and colleague, Marcos Efron, to team up with and help me take this from vision to reality. It was also important for us to be inclusive with our cast and crew. We made every effort to include women, persons of color, and LGBTQ. I feel a diverse group brings a much richer atmosphere on set and on screen.” Gail continues, “We shot the film in a small town in Michigan. It was a challenge, for sure, to pull together a production team and make this happen outside Los Angeles. But I felt that a unique location brings a special feeling to the picture, and now that we live in Michigan it felt personal.” 04/09 – Brooklyn, NY @ Alamo Drafthouse 04/14 – Minneapolis, MN @ Alamo Drafthouse 04/16 – Kansas City, MO @ Alamo Drafthouse 04/17 – Dallas, TX @ Alamo Drafthouse 04/18 – Austin, TX @ Alamo Drafthouse 04/20 – Denver, CO @ Alamo Drafthouse 04/23 – San Francisco @ Alamo Drafthouse 04/26 – Newport Beach, CA @ Newport Beach Film Festival |
