September 11, 2012

Band Launches Album With Hollywood Bowl Show Tomorrow And Appearances On “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” And “Jimmy Kimmel Live” This Week

Dave Matthews Band will celebrate the release of its eighth studio album, Away From The World (RCA Records), with appearances on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” (September 12) and “Jimmy Kimmel Live” (September 13) and a special show at the legendary Hollywood Bowl tomorrow night, September 12.

“The songs have grown-up concerns, from lifelong love to the entire sweep of human history, in setting that range from sparse intimacy to intricate folk-and-funk excursions,” observed Jon Pareles of The New York Times. Rolling Stone hailed Away From The World as the band’s strongest album in years, noting that it “serves up the Matthews magic in all its musically tight, emotionally bumfuzzled splendor” while Us Weekly called it “sumptuous” and Billboard praised it as “sometimes heart-rending, often seismic, always ambitious.”

The group recorded the album earlier this year in Seattle with Steve Lillywhite, who produced its first three studio records – Under The Table And Dreaming, Crash and Before These Crowded Streets. Matthews recently discussed Away From The World on NPR’s “All Things Considered” and performed “Mercy” and “Sweet,” accompanying himself on ukulele and guitar. “Mercy,” the album’s first single, topped the Triple A radio charts for two consecutive weeks and the accompanying video, which features contributions from more than 14,000 fans, can be seen at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VT_d2yjkUaY.

The iTunes Store streamed Away From The World last week, giving fans a preview of the album. “Dave Matthews Band Radio,” Sirius XM Radio’s limited-run, commercial-free music channel featuring music, interviews and live recordings from the band’s archives, can be heard through Sunday, September 30, on Sirius channel 142 & XM channel 43 and as a 24/7 channel online on channel 714 and through the SiriusXM Internet Radio App for smartphones and mobile devices. The new album will be available at all digital service providers and all physical retailers including Starbucks today.  “If Only” from Away From The World is currently Starbucks’ “Pick of the Week.”

Dave Matthews Band – comprising Carter Beauford (drums), Stefan Lessard (bass), Dave Matthews (vocals, guitar) and Boyd Tinsley (violin) – was the biggest ticket seller worldwide of the past decade and has sold over 18 million tickets since its inception. Away From The World follows 2009’s Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King, which debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200, making Dave Matthews Band one of only two groups in chart history to have five consecutive studio albums enter atop the chart. The group has sold a collective 37 million CDs and DVDs combined.
